Teaching Profile

A specialist in early keyboard instruments, Mr Zhang provides expert tuition in historical performance at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music. He is frequently invited to deliver masterclasses and seminars at leading universities, sharing his profound insights into the stylistic nuances of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century performance practice.

His influence extends to the international competition circuit; since 2018, he has been an honoured member of the jury and organising committees for several prestigious competitions, including the Yangtze River, KAWAI, and Grotrian Piano Competitions, as well as the SIYPC (Singapore International Youth Piano Competition).

As a mentor, Mr Zhang is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talent. His students have consistently secured first-prize awards in major domestic and international competitions, with many successfully progressing to elite conservatoires across Europe and North America. Whether overseeing large-scale educational initiatives—such as the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund music projects—or coaching advanced performers, he remains committed to a pedagogy that balances rigorous historical scholarship with artistic spontaneity.
